It is called a "server room" because that IS the equipment.
Other than a switch, router and modem; all about 1k the servers are the equipment.
I have no problem with JR taking a salary but don't tell us the "equipment" is the reason for the cost when you don't know what the "equipment" is.
Jim,
Take this advice from an old friend. It is your business, run it how you wish, but this may be a thought that could help that Eaker’s comment made me think.
Maybe you have an opportunity to lay out specifically what equipment you have and need. Outlining the specifics of the technical situation will first give the ‘restless’* customers some more peace of mind. You may be missing an opportunity. You may have FReepers who own server farms and have extras sitting around that meet your need. You may have someone with spare T3 switches. You may have someone with the exact coding experience you need who can come in and perform miracles? Maybe giving up just a little control will be easier on you, transform the site, and bring your customers back.
*I’ve never seen restlessness like this from the ‘customers’ in my decade here. Not just the occasional malcontents, but established, respected folks. In my world, if trend lines change, you have to review your business model and look for either cost savings, new ways to generate revenue, or new ways to attract customers. Don’t let this become ‘just another site’. You don’t have to change your values to do that either.
Just my opinion. Take it or leave it.
He mentioned several things. A router may have been one.
I'm not tech savvy and didn't understand all the things that he was talking about. And there's nothing wrong with asking him ya know.
