I was thrilled when Perry decided to toss in his hat. In my opinion, he did himself in with his embarrassingly poor debate performances. People concluded, rightly or not, that he was a George W. Bush clone complete with the Texan accent and the seeming lack of the ability to speak well. I HAD hopes for him, and he may yet be our nominee in the future, but he didn’t have what it took to beat the “teleprompter” in chief and it was painfully obvious. A little more practice and 2016 may be his time.
I was very interested in Perry when he first announced. It was his “heartless” comment that turned me off. In spite of that I never hated him or thought he was stupid, but for me personally he lost all momentum with that comment. Even if it was coming from a well-intentioned place, it felt like a slap in the face. Hopefully he can come back and improve all facets of his performance; I think he would make any future race more interesting.
