I was once ostracized for weeks for calling it what it is. I dont and have never ascribed to the what goes on Det stays on Det.

But when you called it what it was, you probably kept it in the det though?

I should add, of course, that the majority of our service members are honorable. Some guys, though, are weak when it comes to working girls when they are miles away from home and lonely. It's nothing new. This story has two elements. First and foremost is the lack of discipline and I'm not just talking about the behavior itself but the apparent absence of discretion. And then there is the total failure to deal with this at the lowest possible level. That this story went up the chain and exploded on the national headlines is nothing short of a complete embarrassment.

Deal with the behavior at the lowest possible level and keep this crap in-house. That should be the unspoken rule.

hmmmm...that’s a tough one.

If you mean that by keeping it “in-house” means he still gets fired, I may be with you.

Right now we are learning Colombia wasn’t the only place they felt free to do this.

And so, it appears, that when a group of guys feel protected from traditional fallout of bad behavior - then they feel free to engage in risky behavior.

It feeds off itself. Why should they be careful when they know it will be kept “in-house” right?

And so...if there is an internal culture of cover-up and protection, then that actually places their high-profile clients in more danger.

I agree to a degree. I was shunned following a meeting that we were all called into (in-house type meeting among enlisted leaders) where there where many whining individuals about how “the wives” were talking and chastising their husbands because of news of certain activities was making its way back home (many husbands who were trying to show themselves innocent of certain behaviors were comparing themselves to others and in turn dropping names). I simply suggested that folks would have no concern of “damage control” or “clean up” if they carried themselves the same way on det as they did at home...fidelity crosses oceans too. Integrity is a major component of discipline and is of the utmost importance. It matters not how "lonely" they were, only that they did the right thing when it was time to act.
