MOORESVILLE, NC -- Even though his presidential campaign "will go bye-bye," Newt Gingrich on Thursday said he and his wife plan to campaign through the fall to help presumptive nominee Mitt Romney.
"I'm going to look at how I can be helpful, because I suspect people will still show up to hear me," Gingrich told voters at luncheon here. "Callista and I are going to campaign through October."
Though today, just 25 people attended the midday event here, leaving a roomful of empty chairs. Some of those seats were taken by Secret Service, an area the campaign has taken heat for recently because of the thousands of dollars the protection was costing taxpayers, even Gingrich he had become more of a sideshow than serious contender for the GOP nomination.
After losing the Deleware primary on Tuesday, the latest in a long string of electoral defeats, the former Speaker of the House acknowledged he will end his campaign next week. He will continue with his packed schedule through North Carolina, saying he felt an obligation to fulfill previous commitments here.
"The campaign will go bye-bye, but I'll be a citizen," Gingrich told a supporter asking about the candidate's future. "I've been an active citizen since I was 15."....

there is zero chance of Romney picking Perry, Palin, Gingrich, Santorum, or Bachmann.
The only conservative he is likely to pick is Rubio, all the other contenders are a bunch of RINO’s like him.
Romney has been sticking it to conservatives the whole primary, don't expect him to suddenly embrace us. Mostly likely pick... a fellow Yankee RINO like... Chris Christie.
Good for Newt. He loves this great nation and knows we must wrest it from the malevolent grip of the Great Usurper and the Thugocrats. A ham sandwich would be better than Obama!
yep! me too! sooo freaking sad what we ended up with... what a golden opportunity wasted!
LOOK at Karl Roves general election map!

It’s a freaking TRAIN WRECK! Romney is a disaster! Even TEXAS is in play now!!!!!!
ARGGGGGGGGGGG!
At least Newt helped win real battles for Conservatives.
I wish that Obama would make a Goodbye Tour.
I definitely missed something here. Can you clue me in?
Agreed. My guess is he picks Rob Portman, hoping he'll bring Ohio's Electoral votes.
I seriously doubt it. :-)
Oh,Lord, Onyx....if Perry becomes Willard’s VP, just come visit me in the psych ward, LOL.
Personally, I think his dislike of Romney is too strong. It dates back to Romney supporting homosexuals in the Boy Scouts (Perry was an Eagle Scout.
We shall see, though.
Dream ticket is right! It’s so sad.
Short answer: No.
Long answer:
LOL!
Mine was a tad longer but a little more PC. You're right though.
I wish Obama would take a Goodbye tour too, and take Romney with him.
Ah yes! Palin & Perry. Now they would be a landslide. Good I’m glad to hear you say that you don’t think Governor Perry would go for Romney’s VP, but Governor Perry is his ideal running mate. He desperately needs help in the South.
Just today, I received a huge envelope marked DO NOT BEND, from “President Barack Obama” and it contained the usual campaign crap, along with a black and white glossy of the Marxist! LOL.
Apparently, the DNC has bought the voters’ lists and they smell Republican weakness in my state because it was addressed to me, exactly as I’m registered. We are not registered by party.
LOL. Now that’s rich.
I’m hoping for Romney to have a Thomas Eagleton revelation...

Speaking as a Haley Barbour supporter, I’ve been depressed for a very long time. Now we just need to pack the Congress with as many conservatives and Tea Party people as possible to hold Romney to his primary promises. All will be well if we don’t walk away. Democrats NEVER give up the fight.
