It probably predates Al but he wrote some mighty fine songs and did some great works. He was born on a sharecropper farm on the other side of the Arkansas River from me down at Spiro, Oklahoma in 1905.
I guess they moved the annual gospel sing from Springdale, Arkansas to Lebanon, Missouri.
For a Church of Christ boy he sure did like accompaniment with his songs.
Fond memories there, I have been in exile for nearly thirty years, wife has relatives in Springdale, we were there a year or so back. Oddly my wifes maiden name is Brumley, no known relation, but I suppose we are all related. Had a relative doing a family tree once, made us all look like inbred rednecks. :) Baptists like me prefer Country Western and Bill Gaither, and Elvis was really a gospel singer that got caught up in the business.
