CONCORD, Mass. -- Concord became the first town in the country to ban the sale of single-serving PET bottled water on Wednesday night, our news partner Wicked Local/Concord reported.
After close to two hours of debate, Warrant Article 32, the Drinking Water in Single-Serving PET Bottles Bylaw, narrowly passed by 39 votes during Wednesdays session of Town Meeting.
The official teller count showed 403 voting in favor, and 364 opposed.
The bottled water bylaw passed at this years Town Meeting bans the sale of non-sparkling, unflavored drinking water in single-serving polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles of 1 liter (34 ounces) or less in Concord on or after Jan. 1, 2013.
Supporters say it's the most sweeping water bottle ban passed by any municipality in the nation and will cut down on pollution and limit exposure to toxic chemicals.

I have a feeling a whole lot of the silent majority are regretting not voting today...
This is New England town government. the population elects the seven hundred or so Town Meeting members. The Town Meeting members do the voting, not the population at large. It's a voice vote mostly. Sometimes that count heads. They never identify who voted which way. When Town Meeting members run for government, they usually write up a one paragraph bio on their education and work experience. Most say they want to make government more efficient. None of them ever say what is the basis of their politics. In short you just don't know how they will vote.
Concord is full of trust fund babies and snots who know better than the commoners.

I moved from MA in 04 after 42 yrs, if family wasn’t there, I would never go back.
Live in NV now, Dingy Reid’s territory, boy I thought Kennedy was bad but this guy really hates the country.

Boy, you can say that again
I think your mother should have five phones and give you four of them.
Why? Because she can...
I am a prepper and this law is religious oppression because I religiously prep.
I was always buy flat sparkling water.
So, have any of the suckers in Concord figured out who is the guy who sells single-serving sparkling water and flavored water bottles in town?
Clearly this ban was put in place to help him.
I'm thinking that an anti-trust "unlawful restraint of trade" lawsuit or two might cause the town to reconsider their actions.
Concord had its share of Tories then, and it appears enough remained to breed. When sufficiently aroused, the townfolk know what to do; perhaps it will happen again.
brilliant!
I sure hope that they haven’t banned pitchforks yet.
