Agree completely. You don't place a 'brain dead' patient into a 'medically induced coma.' The journalist who wrote this article doesn't just issued a press release for lifesitenews.com under the guise of a news article.

By the way, for everyone who's accepted this article and the "brain death is wrong because it was invented for organ donation"? You may need need to buy into the rest of the short lifesitenews.com blurb on that, the source the journalist relied on, which is also noting that heart transplants are suspect because the first heart harvesting was done in South Africa: "suggested that racism was behind the decision to approve the procedure since the operation took place under the old apartheid system and the donor was a black woman."

Yeah. We have organ transplants because of racism according to the source of this article.

Okay. For those of you keeping score at home, the newspaper article was written based on accounts presented to it by lifesitenews.com.

Lifesitenews.com has a religious agenda, not a medical agenda. Dig through the articles. Go to its articles, such as "Organ Donation: The Inconvenient Truth," written by a medical doctor, Dr. John B. Shea, MD, FRCP(C).

Sounds . . . medical.

Where was it initially published? Some medical journal? No, Catholic Insight Magazine, September. 2007.

At least the article probably starts with some medical declaration, right?

No, it starts with:

Pope John Paul II, addressing the 18th International Congress of the Transplantation Society on August 29, 2000, stated that, “Vital organs which occur singly in the body can be removed only after death; that is, from the body of someone who is certainly dead ... the death of a person is a single event consisting in the total disintegration of that unity and integrated whole that is the personal self ...

I'm a believer in religious freedom. But note that the basis for the position taken by the physician is a statement by the Pope. The website, lifesitenews.com, is a website that's taken the view that you can't undertake the multiple harvesting of organs, because the Pope said so (I'm simplifying it). So lifesitenews.com contacts the newspaper FIVE years after this event and tosses in some misleading medical details. Medically induced coma but brain dead? Nyet. Doesn't work. And it's a great story, so the newspaper runs it.

And the agenda of lifesitenews.com is promoted and they smile and press on.
