DH has done well over 55 mph coming down mountain passes. 30 mph or q little more on the flat is not that remarkable for a seasoned cyclist

Where I live, it's easy to hit 40 on the Mt. Lemmon highway. The only thing that holds you back is wind resistance. To go faster, it takes a steep hill, a strong tailwind, and an aerodynamic tuck, which gives up a lot of control.

The ones that go really fast are like the downhill skiers. Fearless. Willing to risk broken bones, or worse.
