Also, what about Auto Zone? Auto Zone has enjoyed explosive growth in Mexico and opened stores where no one else could get them open. Wonder how?
They offered discounts on Sheby parts?
LA MORDIDA
This is all nothing but leftist agitprop.
If you go and review the four Wal-Marts being put into Washington DC...Wal-Mart had to “bribe” various community action groups....to get the permission of the city council to build the stores. Jobs had to be promised “only” to DC residents, which is mostly illegal if you think about it. Various contributions to “charity” community groups also had to be made. One would think that Congress would just start in their own backyard of DC...and dig into bribes there.
“Ignorant media here either doesn’t know or is covering up that fact.”
Cover up would be my guess.
On the other hand it doesn’t really matter - they’ll spin or fabricate any story to further their agenda (or the agenda of those they wear kneepads for).
Bribes are part of the cost of doing business in Mexico. Corruption is just an everyday fact of life down there.
Yes,
This is such a nothing story. I mean really, $ 24 million? That’s petty cash to WalMart.
Why American agencies are even going to worry about this is amazing. It didn’t distort Walmart financials to mislead investors and since this happened in Mexico, it’s none of their business. Sould the Mexican government get upset, they won’t, they can take action against WalMart there.
Here in the US, bribery is known as campaign donations and super pacs.
From my contacts with people doing business in Mexico it seems every official has his hand out for “the bite”.
They have always bribed in Mexico. That’s how they do business. If the President of Mexico approves they will be in.
And phony corporations like the solar ones.
Bribes are part of the cost of doing business absolutely everywhere.
Same right here in the US, just there is a more clever system of laundering the bribe before delivery to the taker.
Moral of the story: Business allegedly engages in bribery in Mexico- shocking; ATF funnels weapons to Mexican gang members to kill American border agents- non-story...
Why am I NOT outraged by this? Isn’t “baksheesh” the way most of the world works?
Right. Not just in Mexico, but in most of the world, this is just the way that business is done. There’s no need to “allege” that they made bribes, it goes without saying.
I'm pretty sure you have to do that to do business in NYC too.
Find someone in Mexico City doing business who doesn't bribe people, and you'll have a news story worth reporting.
Little bites is how they to business in Mexicorruption.
A coincidence that this controversy is happening AND today at a Wal-Mart in Sacramento there were literally about 100 anti-Wal-Mart demonstrators?
IOW Wal-Mart is under attack for "making people poorer" if I remember what a few shouted at me. Sounds like part of the Obama campaign. Probably SEIU.
I was a naive Southern boy when I got my first "real" job and was flown to Chicago to help man a booth at McCormick Place (back when the Consumer Electronic Show had a summer show there)
Well I may have been naive but the owners were old hands.
I was amazed that we were the first booth that got to tear down and get the trucks loaded to get out of town while others waited hours (and a few, days) until I found out we had bribed the correct Union workers.
Just another reason to hate Unions.
It's obvious that this is another Wal-Mart bashing to stir up the Dem base.
