Yeah, that's what seems to have happened. The problem for Newt at this point is he has been reduced to only a protest vote since he has no chance to win, and we already have Ron Paul in the race for that. The result seems to be that the more serious voters ended up getting on board with Willard, and the protest voters went to Ron Paul who is, after all, the real protest candidate.
Then again, at least in Pennsylvania, non-candidate Santorum soundly crushed Newt too. Infact in PA, Gingrich managed to finish behind Santorum who had already dropped out AND Ron Paul.
Newt only finished second in Delaware.
Ron Paul dominated him in Rhode Island, New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania as well.
Right now, if a conservative wants to deny Romney delegates, his best chance is to vote for Ron Paul.
Santorum also came very close to beating Newt in Rhode Island as well, and should beat Newt in total votes tonight. Not too shabby for a withdrawn candidate.
