Yeah, that possibility occured to me as well: maybe they got a fantastic deal on a huge facility, and were expecting to grow.
The Beacon facility looked brand-new; I'm not sure about the Solyndra location.
I personally know of a huge vacant factory in upstate NY that's vacant. I'll bet it could be had for a song. The local "Industrial Development Authority" is trying to find someone to move in.
Maybe that's the explanation. For both.
If they move the facility to another state, they'll have more success getting a tenant. Doing business in NY State is a disaster (similar to California).
