We have a number of Freepers who find it difficult to believe that a child could be suspended from school for defending himself from a violent attack, however that is the STANDARD thing in most school districts.

As a result knowledgeable Freepers NEVER automatically assume that a kid who's been kicked out of school actually did anything bad.

My son in 3rd grade had an obamas son who was stealing his pencils pens etc. He wrote a note “ Steal my stuff and die” to the other person. Ther was no further theft. We were called to the office but that was it. He was reminded nothing in writing. This was 8 years ago in NC

“...a kid who’s been kicked out of school actually did anything bad”.

My son has had a suspension or two due to the zero tolerance policy. I fought both suspensions and they were removed from his record. Both of his suspensions were the result of him fighting back with multiple other boys. (He didn’t start the fight but he was told by us to defend himself). As for his sisters, we have also told them that no one has the right to hurt them. No one. So, if someone hits them, they are to defend themselves. In schools with Zero Tolerance, suspensions are near meaningless. Most (if not all) of my neighbors kids have been suspended at least once (boys and girls). I hate to say this but the suspension is now meaningless to most kids since so many suspensions result from the zero tolerance.
