UN To Investigate Plight of US Native Americans For First Time The UN human rights inquiry will focus on the living conditions of the 2.7 million Native Americans living in the US

Ewen MacAskill 22 April 2012

Many US Native Americans live in federally recognised tribal areas plagued with poverty, alcoholism other social problems.

The UN is to conduct an investigation into the plight of US Native Americans, the first such mission in its history.

The human rights inquiry led by James Anaya, the UN special rapporteur on indigenous peoples, is scheduled to begin on Monday.

Many of the country's estimated 2.7 million Native Americans live in federally recognised tribal areas which are plagued with unemployment, alcoholism, high suicide rates, incest and other social problems.

The UN mission is potentially contentious, with some US conservatives likely to object to international interference in domestic matters. Since being appointed as rapporteur in 2008, Anaya has focused on natives of Central and South America.

A UN statement said: "This will be the first mission to the US by an independent expert designated by the UN human rights council to report on the rights of the indigenous peoples."

Anaya, a University of Arizona professor of human rights, said: "I will examine the situation of the American Indian/Native American, Alaska Native and Hawaiian peoples against the background of the United States' endorsement of the UN declaration on the rights of indigenous peoples."

The US signed up in 2010 to the declaration, which establishes minimum basic rights for indigenous people globally.

Anaya said: "My visit aims at assessing how the standards of the declaration are reflected in US law and policy, and identifying needed reforms and good practices."

Ya, I'm a greedy White Boy for sure and a bunch a whole worse off with it than me, ha ha.

Example: When most us Whites kill a moose, we pack it all away in the freezer for our winter meat supply. When one of the Indians is lucky enough to get one, they split the whole moose up with everybody in the village, a week later the Indian Guy whole shot the moose don't even have any moose meat in his freezer. Indians a bunch of sharing people and when you start understanding how they see the world, well, I kinda wish I was more like them in that sharing respect.

Wife and I taught in a couple Indian Villages, we were the ugly, no good, hated, White People. No joke, the reverse racism does everybody some good now and then. After a year in the village, I had figured them Indians out, knew how to carry myself, and started seeing all the good in their culture many us Whites had lost in ours.

I wouldn't want any my kids marrying into the village as the genetic alcohol abuse problems, 85% FAS rates, and all the social problems it causes in families just ain't worth dealing with. You wouldn't want your kids marrying into a White family with generational mental disorders, now would ya? Us Whites probably got over the alcohol 10,000 years back, Indians are going extinct in some villages right now over it.

But no joke, the Indians are OK, just don't start holding them to the standard you might hold another White Guy or You'll only see their faults and miss all the good they have in their people.

UN: We have found that the majority of the problems result from the special status they have received. We suggest all native Americans be treated exactly like the rest of the American population.

Then I woke up. ; )

The UN investigates and interferes with almost every other nation in some manner or other, usually at our behest, but somehow we're above that. I get it.

Sorry, but the chickens always come home to roost.

Besides, they'll simply recommend what we always do anyway. Just throw more money at the problem. Their cut won't amount to much. We created this monster, this dictator's debating society, and we have the power to end it, but we won't, and you can bank on that.

The real story is not being seen here. This investigation is going to become the UN’s GSA scandal on a grand scale. The first leg of the investigation will be up to Connecticut, to see how the human rights of the Pequots and Mohegans are going. After a week at Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods it will be off to Niagara Falls to see how the Iroguois are doing. Another couple of days at the casino and off to the next tribe. I got to get on to this commission. It will be wine, women, song and poker form sea to shining sea and all on the UN’s, us, dime. We should call this investigation Fear and Loathing at the UN.

Will they take up cannibalism among various tribes? Even the vaunted Iroquois engaged in it on occasion. Let’s see how brave the UN really is.
