Earth Day is a Celebration of Misery and Death Yahoo! Contributor Network By Mark Whittington | Yahoo! Contributor Network – 2 hrs 47 mins ago

COMMENTARY | Today is Earth Day, the annual bacchanalia of self abuse invented by the environmental movement to remind everyone that the human race is a pestilence upon this planet. It is a celebration by the self righteous for the hysterical.

Robert Zubrin, writing for the Washington Times, points out the inconvenient truth of the carnage wrought in the name of the environment, the better to contain that cancer known as humanity. The death toll is in the hundreds of millions, including infanticide conducted on behalf of population control in China and preventable deaths from malaria in the Third World thanks to the banning of DDT.

The desire for clean air and water is being used by professional agitators to stop projects that would provide energy and natural resources, as Brian McGraw points out in the Daily Caller. President Barack Obama's resistance to the Keystone XL pipeline is just one battle in this constant war of environmental hysterics against human progress.

The Endangered Species Act has been used to stop development and, in the case of California's Central Valley, to create a desert where once was fertile farmland because of something called the delta smelt. Former Alaska Gov Sarah Palin sarcastically suggested that human lives were being destroyed for the sake of bait.

Here is a modest proposal. Let's cancel Earth Day. Environmentalism has been used to commit too many atrocities to be a cause to be celebrated. If anything, Earth Day should be a day of mourning and reflection for all the lives that hugging the planet has taken and snuffed out.

Amazing. Just since my last post (3 minutes ago) I checked again and the editors have CHANGED the statement on Wiki.

Now it's a "sworn statement" they've made than Einhorn was not involved.

LOL. Looks like somebody's taking some heat today.

I have not seen any Earth Day celebration anywhere this year or recently.

Where exactly (in real life not the web) are people celebrating it? I live in Chicago and there are plenty of libs around, but no Earth worshipping public festivities.

Is it big on campus or something?

Good catch!!

I’m sure that a lot of people are looking up Einhorn today. Problem with the Internet is that it can be like a giant poster board of tabloid newspaper covers one finds at the grocery store checkout, only people believe it because it’s on an online “encyclopedia”.

I tell me students (college) on the first day, NO WIKIPEDIA!! And I then explain to them the difference between consensus and fact. I HATE wikipedia

You should have walked out of the Homily. It’s not one of the required three main parts of the Holy Mass and anti-Christian at that.

...Einhorn's claim...

I could be mistaken, but I don't recall an active disassociation until he was returned to the US to await a trial without fear of the DP.

Until then, he was considered an anti-establishment hero by the loonies.

He foreshadowed what a boob Specter was to be.

I don’t walk too well these days, and I was in the front row. I figured that it was better to pray for the repose of the soul of Holly Maddux. But, I considered it. 25 years ago I’d have done it.

The newspaper today in Milwuakee is filled with tributes to Earth Day. Perhaps it is because that now that Ira Einhorn is ensconsed in jail, the writers tend to credit former Wisconsin Governor, Gaylord Nelson, as the creator of Earth Day.

Yes. Fr. Veik displayed a basket of packages of Pot Pourri made of recycled materials that handicapped people sponsored by his Capuchin Order (a Franciscan Order) had put together. The various scents were called Brother Sun, Sister Water, etc. At one point he asked, rhetorically, if he sounded like a salesman as he explained how good it was that these handicapped people could embark on this project where they could turn over their earnings to people less advantaged than they?

My head was exploding, but I was nodding 'yes' vigorously, much to the chagrin of those seated behind me, I'm sure.

I don't know if he wanted us to purchase this pot pourri after Mass, or not. I didn't stick around to find out. I had to get out of there before I embarrassed myself. I think a letter is in order.
