The future of Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign seems to hinge on the Delaware primary early next week.
"Tuesday is a big day," a source close to the Gingrich campaign told NBC News. "Newt is just waiting to see what happens on Tuesday."
Up until now, Gingrich has promised to take his campaign all the way to the Republican convention in Tampa at the end of the summer, although the odds are not in his favor.
The former House speaker has been spending the majority of his time the past three weeks in the First State. Gingrich has made at least 12 campaign stops in Delaware thus far while the presumptive GOP nominee, Mitt Romney, has held just one event there.
Gingrich campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond said they are "optimistic" about the results in the state.
"Because Delaware is a small state it has allowed us to campaign effectively," Hammond said.
We are looking for a bounce from Delaware and, with a good showing in the state, we will spend a lot of time on the phone with donors."
The campaign originally said late Friday night that the speaker would spend Monday campaigning in Delaware and then would head to Virginia (where Gingrich lives) for Tuesday. Just 30 minutes later, the campaign said Gingrich would be in North Carolina next week instead.
"Newt's North Carolina trip next week is back on - there was a communications glitch," Hammond told NBC News about the error.
The primaries on April 24 will be the first time voters take to the polls...

“Moreover, here is something not widely known — the polls for the last two weeks have been showing that Newt, even as the media was coronating Romney, has been holding a remarkable residual strength in North Carolina. What does that mean?
It means Republican voters in North Carolina are in the mood to cause an upheaval — to tell the national news media that primary voters and not a lot of elitist liberals will pick our party’s nominee.”

Go Newt! Go North Carolina!
It means Republican voters in North Carolina are in the mood to cause an upheaval to tell the national news media that primary voters and not a lot of elitist liberals will pick our partys nominee.
This is getting scary! RNC establishment strategy: Publish no poll numbers; spread the word that Romney is the nominee; have people vote based on blackout and misinformation expecting Romney to win big; then hit hard with Romneys wins and Newts losses to bully Newt into dropping. (The news media are complying, including Fox News who are even slamming Newt for his rightful Secret Service protection expense while not mentioning that Paul is getting the same cover)
Please do yourself the honor of reviewing actual polls by doing a Google search for 2012 Republican presidential polls (name state) and you will see why the RNC is using this tactic. Then spread the word!
Obama with dem-media complex, millions of dollars, sycophants everywhere in the media, versus Mitt Romney with the entire conservative media capitulated behind him, his millions, and NEWTON LEROY GINGRICH is only 7 points behind Obama in the lastest Rasmussen tracking?

PA is one of the most expensive media markets in the country... one of the reasons Santorum knew he couldn't compete against Romney's ads. DE is a very small state and much more easy to blanket media and grassroots wise..

Now that is not true.
Watch what happens when Mitt's other wifes are exposed. My point, until its over, its not over.
Romney = Eight more years of Øbamanomics.

A great GOP majority in the House and Senate will prevent any such thing.
Conservatives need to focus on the downstream GOP candidates because that’s where the power is located.
Just look at how the Dem House and Senate totally wrecked the last two years of Bush 43s term and continued to wreck the US during the first two years of the Obama term.
