Could it be that the prosecution filed a sham charge just to quiet down the media and baiters?

Could it be she is up for reelection and thought she'd get the benefit now even if she loses in court long after her reelection?

Up for reelection, yes, but seems she was unopposed - so won by default. Didn’t need this case after all.
