I remember paying my family doc in cash in his office. He had no outer office.
As recently as the 80’s, my husb would take “trade” in lieu of money, from many of his patients...He said it was about their Pride, not about his income! We recieved many a salmon or bucket of Dungeness crab or clams, and many a cord of wood in those days...so it was a WIN WIN
