IMO better to be a versatile character actor. Before Alec Guiness played Obi Won-Konobe, he was Hitler in “The Last Ten Days”. Of course, it was a teensy offputting to hear der Fuhrer speaking in a clipped British accent.
It won’t hurt Ganz. He’s been an actor for decades with a HUGE body of work in every language. The George Reeves/”Superman” story is a myth. But I’ll agree, I can’t see Daniel Radcliff as anyone but Harry Potter. Or Elijah Wood as anyone but Frodo.
