Breivik describes hunting down panicked teens
CBS NEWS ^

In testimony too graphic for any parent to hear, Norwegian far-right extremist Anders Behring Breivik shocked an Oslo courtroom as he calmly described hunting down teenagers on an island summer camp.

As his words rolled out, survivors and victims' relatives of the July 22 massacre hugged and sobbed, trying to comfort each other. That testimony was also broadcast to 17 other courtrooms in Norway where others affected by the attacks were gathered, but was not carried live on Norwegian television.

The 33-year-old Norwegian left out no detail from his rampage, explaining how he shot panicked youths at point-blank range. 69, mostly teenagers, were killed on Utoya island and others only survived by diving into chilly waters to escape.

Breivik said he did not anticipate his victims' reactions.

"Some of them are completely paralyzed. They cannot run. They stand totally still. This is something they never show on TV," Breivik said. "It was very strange."

He said he pointed his gun at Berntsen's head and pulled the trigger. He shot Boesei as she tried run away. Then as they lay on the ground, he shot them both twice in the head.

The first shot was "extremely difficult," he declared, saying he then entered a "fight-and-flight modus" that made it easier to continue the killing spree.

Breivik couldn't remember large chunks of the approximately 90 minutes he spent on the island before surrendering to police commandos. Still, he recalled some of the shootings in great detail, including inside a cafe where he mowed down young victims as they pleaded for their lives.

Some teenagers were frozen in panic, unable to move even when Breivik ran out of ammunition. He changed clips. They didn't move. He shot them in the head.

Others pretended to be dead. He said he shot them, too.

"Some of them are completely paralyzed. They cannot run. They stand totally still."

"Some teenagers were frozen in panic, unable to move even when Breivik ran out of ammunition"

This is important. Many of the victims were boys, descendants of Vikings for heaven's sake, yet they did not seize upon their chance to jump the murderer when he paused to reload.

This is the sad outcome of a gun-controlled, liberal social democracy that teaches non-violence and peace studies. The children of this culture become lambs led to slaughter.

Had this happened in the 1950s, even as late as the 1960s, in any western country, the d-ckhead would've been jumped by 5-10 youths. One or two might've been plugged but the other 8 would've beat the h-ll out of Breivik.

My son took three years of self-defense classes. HE would've launched into his martial arts training and alone would've taken Breivik down.

They were Communists being trained to hold the whip hand over others. Much to their surprise... They found out what it is like on the other end of the whip.

I believe that the faith of Sgt. York allowed him to return to society after the war more psychologically adjusted than Audie Murphy.

It’s interesting that Sgt. York’s faith almost kept him out of the fighting all together.

Indeed. And he didn't much care for the adulation as a war hero either. He killed people and didn't want to be proud of how good at it he was. He was truly a paragon of what it means to be a Christian soldier.

I cannot recommend the movie highly enough. Not only as a great movie in and of itself - but also as a part of American history. The DVD with commentary is a MUST - they have a brilliant Hollywood War historian and she seems to know a TON of interesting things about EVERYTHING!

If any of those kids had been raised like Audie Murphy, well, they wouldn’t have had those parents and they wouldn’t have been on that island.

I struggle to respond to your post and probably shouldn’t bother.

An act of barbarism (Breivik’s) is not diminished by what others do or have done. It is still barbarism.

Humane? Yes. Putting a bullet into the head of a kid you’ve already shot is humanity at its finest. Chasing kids into the cold water and then shooting at potential rescuers, another act of humanity.

Brilliant? You bet. Gosh, maybe he can inspire a copycat or two to continue his brilliant and humane work.

You mouth that you don’t approve but your words say samething quite different. The adults have really good security, we can’t kill them, so let’s kill their children instead. What we can’t get at the ballot box, we can get by wanton murder. Brilliant!! Humane!!

Good advice and observation. Trouble is most have been conditioned to comply.

Again, I do not approve of what Brievik did but if the tables were turned and some leftist murdered 100 kids at, say, a Tea Party summer camp I do not doubt that the left would be openly celebrating. Bill Maher would call the killer ‘brave’, Obama would call the killer the son he never had, and any number of academics would call the killer a hero.

Nope. You are sorely mistaken there. Horrible post.

Both of you are misreading me here. When I say that Breivik was both brilliant and sane I am also making the case to have him put to death. He was coldly calculating in what he did and I stand by what I said that he was brilliant in attacking his targets where they were most vulnerable.

It makes some people feel better to dismiss such an act as an act of insanity when sometimes this kind of thing is done by coldly rational people.

The vast majority of abortion doctors are arguably sane, too. Some of them are probably brilliant.

I certainly hope neither of you is going to go all MSM on me and interpret that as my approving of abortion so why would you think I would approve of Breivik?

I was commenting on the part about if this happened to a tea party kids camp. They would definitely not be cheering it.

He is insane, yes. He should still be executed. In my post I made no comment about you “praising” him.
