Well, that's not entirely fair. They did a splendid job of pushing the Muslim hordes back out of Europe... all the way to Jerusalem. They did pretty well with what they had. The money eventually ran out, though. The ninth (I think...) crusade was doomed from the start and never really engaged, mainly because there was no money.
