Collins: Prostitutes In Secret Services Scandal 'Could Be Spies'

The women Secret Service and military crew took to a Colombian hotel before President Barack Obama arrived "could be spies," said Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine.

"We don't know who these women are," she told reporters in Washington. "They could be spies. They could be associated with hostile forces. They could have disabled the agents' weapons or planted listening devices or in other ways breach security. It is very serious."

She said investigators suspect the agents and military personnel brought as many as 21 prostitutes to the sprawling beachfront Hotel Caribe in Cartagena, Colombia, April 11 during a night of carousing before Obama's April 13 arrival for the sixth Summit of the Americas.

While the Secret Services agents had no business cavorting with hookers, there is a certain irony that back in the 1960s Secret Service agents were shocked when hookers were ushered into JFK’s hotel room during some of his trips without Jackie. According to insiders at the White House during JFK’s presidency, Jack Kennedy made Bill Clinton look like an amateur at philandering.

The FBI rounded up a network of deep-cover Russian spies last year after the group came close to placing an agent near a Cabinet official in the Obama administration, a senior FBI counterspy said Monday as the bureau released once-secret documents on the case.

Frank Figliuzzi, assistant FBI director for counterintelligence, did not identify the Cabinet official, but other U.S. officials said it was Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton
