It's often taken for granted that Christian conservatives' uneasiness with Mormonism best explains why Mitt Romney has struggled to win-over those voters.
In Inside the Circus, a new e-book about the 2012 campaign by Politico's Mike Allen and Evan Thomas, the Romney campaign is depicted as so consumed with worry that the candidate's faith would hurt him with the evangelicals that dominated the Iowa caucuses that it failed to anticipate Rick Santorum's rise. "Part of the reason for the ceiling [of support], quite frankly, is the Mormon thing," a Romney aide told the authors. "If he was even an Episcopalian, he'd be better off today."
Negative perceptions of Mormonism so worried Romney's 2008 presidential team that, according to Politico, "the dilemma had its own acronym in campaign power point presentations: TMT (That Mormon Thing)."
Of course, Romney's ideologically malleability and political opportunism -- not his faith -- has always been his biggest liability with conservatives. But the Mormon angle allowed the media to portray conservatives as bigoted theocrats.
The media's preoccupation with anti-Mormon sentiment on the right has distracted from what is arguably a much more pervasive anti-Mormonism on the secular left.
Reams of polling data make clear that anti-Mormonism is not exclusively, or even predominantly, a problem on the right. A 2011 Gallup poll found that 27% of Democrats said they wouldn't vote for a Mormon of their own party for president, 50% more than the 18% of Republicans who felt that way. In a Quinnipiac survey, 46% of Democrats said they wouldn't be comfortable with a Mormon president, while 29% of Republican respondents felt similarly.

Boogieman: Ok, challenge accepted. To Muslims, the defining point of whether someone is a Muslim or not is whether they have taken shahada, or made a public proclamation of faith in Allah and his prophet, Muhammed. In March, 2007, in an interview with Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times, this took place: Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. http://www.webcitation.org/mainframe.php Now, what are the opening lines of the call to prayer (the Adhan)? They are: Allah is greater. I testify that there is no deity except Allah. I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. The simple form of the shahada profession of faith is: There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. So, the opening lines of the call to prayer ARE a form of the shahada, and by reciting them publicly, Obama fulfilled the basic requirement to become a Muslim, if he had not done so before that time.
Thank you, Boogieman! You have raised my spirits that we have more thinking (& discerning) FREEPERs in our midst than I give credit for!
This would be what I call "Grade A" type of evidence that Obama is indeed, a "closet" Muslim. Do we need more evidence than this? (I would say "yes")
But is this a solid foundation upon which to build such a case?
Yes. An excellent find...and one I wish that it had not taken a challenge by me to be reinvigorated as a reference on FR.
What do I mean by "reinvigorated?" Well, FREEPERS have gotten rather lazy since '09 ... dropping hints & intimating that Obama is a "closet" Muslim without iacking it up with documentation.
Well I went to Google and entered:
Shadada "Free Republic" Obama
as a search: Result: Shahada & Obama google search
I looked @ the first 100 Google hits, looking for FR threads...such threads built around this theme occurred about a dozen times or so within those 100 hits...The problem is that just about all of them were FR threads from 2008 and 2009.
So, I invite all for people to review the following FR threads ... prompted by Boogieman's lead here:

I commend the FREEPERs who posted these articles.
I ask the "hermetically sealed" crowd who wants to "protect" us from investigating the religious realities of POTUS candidates why they didn't come onto these threads above & call the freepers on the carpet for not keeping religion out [...oh, don't bother to answer...we know if you were FREEPERs in '08 & '09, you're just plain religious hypocrites]
Finally...if Obama's Muslim ties have been worth investigating...and then to find out how that intersects with his running the White House...then the same applies to Romney & Mormonism...
Just as Boogieman's excellent post prompted me to investigate more Obama's Muslim ties...so should my posts cause others to investigate the implications of a Mormon "prophet" controlled POTUS in the White House...
Oh, jeeze, talk about not telling the whole truth. Mormons believe that everyone was brothers and sisters to them in the pre-existence. Even you.
Mormon T.P. Pole: Oh, jeeze, talk about not telling the whole truth. Mormons believe that everyone was brothers and sisters to them in the pre-existence. Even you.
Oh, Kolob! Talk about not telling the whole truth. Mormons believe that Lucifer is -- from your alleged "pre-existence" -- your elder brother, which would make Lucifer an "elder brother" to Jesus as well...
Correction: I meant to say: Which would make Lucifer a "younger" brother to Jesus as well...
Yes, you’re right, most of the investigating of Obama’s possible Muslim connections was done years ago, and I guess, after all this time, we all figure that anyone interested in learning about it already has. Plus, as I’m sure you are well aware, trying to tell people something they don’t want to hear can get pretty tiring. Maybe now that it’s election season again, it’s time to dust off this info and put it out there again.
Woohoo! It’s going right up there on the mantle with my Tiny Tots Swim Meet 3rd Place ribbon!
Well, below is yet another dimension that applies not only to the campaign season, but what would be the case if Romney got into the White House.
First...
Campaign season:
I can't help but think if it was any, ole cultist other than a Mormon,
...the thought that a mainstream POTUS candidate confesses to originating from another planet in another galaxy is a lil' mind-boggling...
...given that this pretense-front exists as predicated by the RINO GoP-establishment: "Oh, all's normal Election Cycle 2012!"
"Oh, Mitt. You're were spirit born somewhere else???"
"...Then you came to Earth to inhabit a body?"
"...That's nice."
Then comes...
2013 & beyond if Mitt was THE leader of free world...at least scenario below would be the case upon $Millions & $MILLIONS of $ spent on PR by the Lds church:
"Yes! We, too, want ALL our kiddies of the U.S. & world to emulate you as POTUS and grow up just as you did you..."
"...so that they, too, can embrace this worldview for all..."
"...in which our kiddies in exactly the same way" [Which, btw, is what MR believes] "have traversed from the far galactical reaches from that little hamlet in the sky, Kolob..."
"...all the way to Planet Earth..."
"...and then...donned the White House like a glove..."
"...before progressing to some Great White Throne as 'god' of his own planet..."
Boy...What a narrative Lds, Inc. PR agents will have to work with to hand off/peddle to the kids of America & the world!
Mormon priesthood workers of the various galaxies, unite! The everlasting Mormon United Order rises from the ashes again!

MiddleAmerica, U.S.of A., 2013: "Mom, when I grow up, I want to a god from Kolob like Mitt."
lol! :)
Is there anything to this?
Funny, because Free Republic is probably one of the most anti-Romney sites on the right. I can count on one hand the number of anti-Romney posts based on the mans religion.
_______________
One hand? With 5 fingers? LOL!!! You need thousands of fingers just forone poster....calofornian.
