Yes because tight handcuffs and a holding cell were something really needed for a human being on the planet for only 6 years.
I did the exact same things this article describes she did when I was her age, and funny how I was never cuffed and imprisoned for it.
I am white though. So, you know, I probably could have punched the teacher in the face and nothing would have happened to me.
This is breaking news?
Of course. I think we all did. I am sure the actions of this kid occur every day in thousands of elementary schools all across the country.
It seems like the absurdity of the handcuffs and a jail cell are being lost to some.
Not in the school I went to. If you had behaved that way, you may not have been handcuffed, but you would have been forcibly restrained and had some serious punishment.
Hitting a teacher in the face? Doesn’t matter to me what color you are, you’re gone from any school trying to educate decent kids.
The behavior described is evidence of incompetent parents and a child out of control - calling the police is probably a more appropriate response in this day and age than how my principal would have responded back in the day.
The police and the cuffs were not prompted by her color, but by her actions, and her actions have no color.
Well if someone did that when I was in school they would be in trouble for sure. Assault should not be tolerated. Failure to disciple this child is what allows her to think she can get away with it. Obviously the parent will not do anything to her. If me or my siblings had done anything like this, the school or police would have been the least of our worries. Mom and Dad would be so much worse.
Hopefully this experience will end the destructive path the child was heading down. Destruction of property and injuring someone is not acceptable.
You pushed a shelf over onto the principal of your school???
At 6 they would not have called the police on me they would have called my mother. I personally would have preferred handcuffs and a jail cell to facing my mother’s wrath.
I hope you are being sarcastic in your response because otherwise I consider you a loon
Did you forget the sarcasm tag? I find what you posted very hard to believe.
I am retired from this department. Juveniles are almost *NEVER* placed in cells at the Milledgeville Police Department, a practice seemingly continued in this case according to the incident report: http://www.13wmaz.com/assetpool/documents/120417104050_milledgeville-student-incident-report.pdf .
As was done in this case, juveniles are typically supervised in the squadroom, a large combination classroom/briefingroom/breakroom open to all department employees.
