The government official on the frontlines of the scandal involving a wasteful government conference, U.S. General Services Administration regional commissioner Jeffrey Neely, will invoke his 5th amendment right against self-incrimination, his lawyer Preston Burton tells ABC News.
He wont comment on the $822,751 conference, many of the expenditures for which the GSA Inspector General called excessive and wasteful. He wont comment on the bizarre awards ceremony, or the commemorative coins, the mind-reader/motivational speaker.
Mr. Neely bares a bit more in a photo collection on his wifes Google+ page. There visitors can see photos of Neely staying in a luxurious suite at the M Resort Spa & Casino in November 2009, during one of the eight scouting and off-site pre-conference meetings to prepare for the October 2010 conference.
The eight pre-conference trips alone cost the government $130,000, according to the GSA Inspector Generals investigation of the 2010 conference. Inspector General Brian Miller has referred his case to the Justice Department for possible criminal investigation.

Gotta launder the SEIU pay somehow...
That would work for me, too.
Make him stay in the hot tub an entire year. He can’t get out for any reason. He must eat three full meals a day.
Notice some of the LIBS comments!! Trying to blame this on Bush. . .yawn.
I may not be popular for saying this, but I think that CEO's don't get paid enough.
I'd love to see more direct compensation to executives, and less in the form of stock options. I think that would encourage long term strategic thinking, rather than short-term tactical thinking at the executive level.
But, more to the point, if the economy is great, and the company is successful, then it's the CEO's fault. Likewise, if America elects an idiot president and a government that immediately and unconstitutionally implements a wealth redistribution policy and the business tanks along with the economy ...... then it's the CEO's fault.
Additionally, by definition, there are only 500 people in the world who are Fortune 500 CEO's. How many people would be overqualified to handle this government wonk's job? There probably are 500 right now, just surfing FR, nevermind looking any further.
Unless you are referring to a different incident, the recent news story occurred in Cartagena, Colombia.
government corruption of this magnitude calls for execution...preferably hanging in the public square as an example and warning to others
Clairee Belcher: All gay men have track lightin’. And all gay men are named Mark, Rick, or Steve.
I’m betting Mark was taking the picture, Rick is the bathing beauty’s middle name and Steve, who’s waiting at home, gave him the necklace.
Give me a break I wuz public edjukated. Colombia, Brazil, whats the difference? It’s Booshes fault anyway.
Is this guy career or political?
LOL!
"Comrades!" he cried. "You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a spirit of selfishness and privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples (wine-soaks). I dislike them myself. Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our health. Milk and apples/wine-soak hot tub baths (this has been proved by Science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the well-being of a pig. We pigs are brainworkers. The whole management and organization of this farm depend on us. Day and night we are watching over your welfare. It is for YOUR sake that we drink that milk/wine and eat those apples/soak in those hot tubs."
Someone else suggested public hanging (post 19) & that works for me, too.
How bout this........tattoo THIEF on their foreheads.
Absolutely perfect.
That's some serious prep work.
I mentioned last year (maybe two) that the SSA are clients and saw the bid for there 300 people “conference” that bill was over 750,000.
No one seemed to care then.
