I’m sure this has been brought up a billion times on FR, but I’ve never been sure what distinguishes an “assualt weapon” from other weapons. Perhaps as opposed to a “love pat weapon”?

An “assault rifle” is a shoulder-fired, select-fire weapon used by an individual soldier, firing a cartridge of intermediate rifle caliber, with a detachable high-capacity magazine.

A potato peeler, banana or spork could be an “assault weapon.”
