If and when Barack Obama wins another four years in the White House, one of the first people he should invite over is Rick Santorum.
That's because when the scholars chronicle the history of his 2012 race, it will be Mr. Santorum who will get credit for handing the victory to the Democrats. And if you don't believe it, just ask Mitt Romney.
Without his buddy Santorum in the contest, Mr. Romney could have taken a more moderate path to the nomination and would not have been dragged so far to the right in order to compete for the ultra-conservatives who didn't much cotton to Mr. Romney and were more comfy with the former Pennsylvania Senator.
The contrast between these two guys on the stump has also helped the president.
Mr. Santorum had a more down-to-earth style that his opponent desperately tried to immolate but just couldn't pull it off.

But hey, they have a rather unorthodox transplant now that seems to help with such problems.
I never see any articles about Barry and the ‘RATS being so far left of Stalin that it’s going to be their fault if Americans throw the ‘RATS out in November. Being a liberal “extremist” is good. Being a conservative “extremist” is bad. Something is really #@!$% up here!
If he works real hard I bet he can deliver TX to the GOP.
I realize that, but what I am saying is that if Romney is the nominee, then that is who we must go with. Besides, I have a pet cat that knows more than Obama and is infinitely more qualified to be President.
Romney should hire your cat.
Hey according to Mr. Buzzard, we are an infection of the GOP just like C. Difficile.
Man, ever get the sense that the GOP just isn’t that into us?
Santorum quit when he did to preserve his spot as “first loser” so the next contested nomination can be his “turn,” another coronation just as it was for McCain after 2000 and Romney now.
They can’t even come up with a real reason to support Romney without invoking the name of Obama.
How pathetic is that? Just like the democrats to use fear. I’m not afraid anymore.
What this dumbass writer does not realize is that is Santorum and
New’ts poplar vote outnumbered Romney’s.
They will figure it out come election time.
Yes, and Rummy was right. But very few defended him on the merits of his argument because of all the emotionalism on the other side.
And that's kinda the problem with Romney vs. Obama. Romney doesn't inspire. If he loses a close race we'll all be wondering what might have been with another of the candidates.
Remember what Rummy said. You go to war with the army you have, not the one you wish you had.
Indeed, yes indeed.
Then the war is lost because Romney isn’t going to win. The best we’ll get out of Romney is a negotiated surrender.
You want to win the war then you better find a means of getting rid of Romney.
One can blame the Repugnant Party elitists!!
I remember my nearly uncontrolled elation in 1994 when we took Congress, and let the bent one know that he was next. But all that strength wilted away, and in 1996 we had a really weak field of candidates, and four more years of clintoon.
Sound familiar?
The dumbass (Skubic) is a local Michigan lightweight political analyst who leans Democratic.
Romney will win.
Unlike Bush, the Romney people will fight back — witness Anne Romney pitted against Rosen right now. Unlike McCain, Romney won’t leave some Rev. Wright or Bill Ayers story untold.
Romney will win.
” . . . run the GOP elite out of town on a rail when this disaster is over.”
If Obama wins this election I would not expect there to be any more American presidential elections. Four more years of his one-man socialist autocratic rule by executive edict will put “finis” to the American constitutional federated republic.
