If we are in his image, God must certainly be rational. Why would we expect God to be less merciful than man?

"Why would we expect God to be less merciful than man?" "How could God be less merciful, less forgiving than man?" You keep repeating that (or it's variation) what is that supposed to mean, is there a "man"? Which man, what man?
