Asked the question in an interview with local radio station WILM at the Hollywood Diner, Gingrich, one of three contenders left in the race for the GOP presidential nomination, said he wouldnt be interested in joining likely nominee Romneys Cabinet, but addednot because I am opposed to Mitt.
Look, if the choice does end up being Romney versus [President] Obama, I can be very, very enthusiastic for Romney; that is a huge choice, the former House speaker said. But I had a very good life doing a lot of fun things: Im a grandfather, Ive got two grandchildren I want to spend time with, Callista has got me into being a really bad golfer. I would like to move up from bad to mediocre.
I think now that theyre down to two of us. I think youre gonna see a lot more clear communication, Gingrich said. Id like to give people the chance to see these are the two major alternatives to Obama and which one is the better alternative and which one, forgetting Obama for a second, which one would be better for Americas future.

Newt has no plans to serve in any Romney Campaign. And I don't think it's just because he wants to spend time with his grandchildren or improve his golf game...

Any conservative who wants to work with Romney will have to abandon his core beliefs. Imagine trying to debate the opposition on say, the folly of nationalized health care, when you know full well your opponent is going to throw Romney’s support for it right in your face.

It's very encouraging to see Newt drawing more distinct lines between him and Romney, the GOP establishment and so-called conservative media. He truly is one of the last conservatives standing...
So let me understand here. We have to make a principled stand against the lying flip-flopper who is identical to Obama, for the only true principled conservative left who opposes the lying flip-flopper who is identical to Obama.
Except that the ultra principled conservative might be glad to enthusiastically support the unprincipled lying flip-flopper if it comes down to it.
Those are the ones who can be bought - like those 'conservatives' showing their true colors NOW by supporting maggot mitt.
GO NEWT!! For those who think if they vote for mitt as he will surround himself with your brilliance to keep him on the straight and narrow - I'm glad to see you squashed that idea! Maggot mitt is on his own.
Except that the ultra principled conservative might be glad to enthusiastically support the unprincipled lying flip-flopper if it comes down to it.
You got it. Newt has made the same decision that millions of other conservatives have, if the final nominee is Romney, he will work for and support him. It is not a happy choice, but I respect the people who won't do that, as well as the people who will...
We have to work to win Texas and North Carolina (and maybe even Arkansas) for Newt. Without these, jhe has no chance in the delegate count.
A few days ago, we saw some pretty convincing arguments for why Romney’s delegate count is not really as high as his campaign touts it to be. If these really are true, Newt really does have a fighting chance, what with over half the delegates still up for grabs, and the majority of the Mitt-friendly states already voted.
If conservatives can get off their duffs and stop angsting over how “inevitable” Romney is and so why should we bother long enough to get out and work, there’s no reason TX, IN, AR, NC, MT, NM, WV, and OR can’t be turned.
The thing I can’t figure out is why Romney is on top. I have yet to run into a single person that say Mitt is their guy. Most if not all mention Newt as who they would like to see in the WH. I guess it’s possible that all my acquaintances are conservatives but you’d think I would run into just one enthusiatic Mitt supporter.
Newt is the smartest candidate in the race.
He’s certainly the best conservative.
The Freepers who say they support him and will NEVER support Romney are just missing something.
Mitt is getting votes because he has successfully managed (with the help of the MSM, Drudge, etc.) to convince Republicans and conservatives that he is "inevitable," and people respond by holding their noses and voting for him since they want to be on "the winning side." It's all psychology.
If Newt is to beat Mitt, he will have to break the hold of this psychological perception.

Right now, Newt is very focused on DE and NC... and CT is another small state where an inexpensive campaign can be waged.
Texas is on fire right now. I just hope Gov. Perry stays strong for Newt. I imagine the pressure from the RNC will increase. There is also a nationally-televised Texas debate schedule by the GOP there - 5 days before hte primary. The Texas GOP put out a statement saying Texas voters will consider any candidate who chooses not to participate as not interested in or worthy of their vote. So, we could actually see a one-on-one Romney Newt debate for the first time with a little Paul crazy for a little comic relief. Santorum had accepted the invitation.
Any and everyone supporting Newt needs a lot of support right now because if he begins to move up, there will be some ugly pressure brought upon his supporters to change to Mitt... Even Mark Levin is supporting Romney and has endorsed Romney now.. that was a huge conservative loss in my estimation...
Please, if you can, any way, large or small, try to get involved. Even 10 phone calls per day can help immensely. And even the smallest donation will be greatly appreciated.
You know, that exact same thing is true in my life. I don't know a single Romney supporter. I had just considered that was due to the fact I must live a very insulated life. I have lots of conservatives and lots of lib dems around me. But maybe there is something to what you say... maybe they are ripe for the pickin' -- :)
Make it happen, grassroots, make it happen.Yes!
Actually, I do. But Newt has SO MUCH to give to America.
Why should he be a baby sitter to lying mitt and change his diapers? Either voters are PRO AMERICAN and vote for the PRO American candidate Newt or they are not and would vote for mitt while hoping mitt will..... when we KNOW NEWT WILL as America/Constitution is within every cell in Newt's body!!
Mitt hasn't a clue what America is about and his record shows it - he brought in every filth and anti-American laws he could in his four short years and then lies about it. A vote for him is throwing America to the curb. Newt and Mitt are as oil and water. ANY sameness is that they are of the same gender.
Newt was the ONLY conservative who was in the race - outside of Perry would couldn't be bought off. Newt has the know how and desire to get things done. And he WOULD get it done. That is why the resistance was vehement in opposing him. But, I know you know this.
You know if Newt got the Conservative Party nomination I just might switch parties. Think about it Newt. With Sarah as his VP it would be a no brainer.
Hes certainly the best conservative.
The Freepers who say they support him and will NEVER support Romney are just missing something.
Yes. They are missing the fact that, if only for the sake of the military, they need to support Romney. Barack has done almost irreparable damage to the military, there may not even be enough time now to undo it if he loses re-election. Hopefully, Romney will undo some of that, and if that is all he does differently than obama, though I think there will be other things, I feel sure, that is reason enough to vote for him against obama.
Newt, on the other hand - now that's the whole enchilada!!

Exactly. The establishment wants Mitt, let them support him through any Romney presidency.
Newt really is the last conservative standing. And so far, Perry has remained strong behind him. Hope that remains the case... I actually think Newt would have served mightily, even in a Santorum admin, or Perry or Bachman, or any relative conservative, and probably helped them immensely. I think supporting Mitt if he is the nominee, is Newt's call to duty for his country, but once he does that, I think he'll want minimum involvement with him.
Yes, the dream that must not be spoken. Can you possibly wait till 2016 if Romney takes it - primarying a sitting president. Or the 2016 candidate against Bite Me.
I don't think Newt will run again. But he sure is the best groomer, mentor, guide and guru there is around. He knows new, young conservative blood is the only hope...
Its like the Emperor's New Clothes. Shysters (the media, the GOP elite) have repeated over and over that Romney is the smart choice, the inevitable choice, etc. Many folks buy into things they hear many times.
I think Newt would have been a far better choice, and I am not giving up all hope for him yet. I don't think Mittens is the reincarnation of Obama like some folks around here do, but he's nowhere near the best we could do for a GOP candidate. I think he can beat Obama, but he will have a much harder time of it than a more 'severe' conservative would have. I also think that Newt on the ticket would give conservative GOPers more coat-tails in down-ticket races that Romney will be able to deliver.
I wish Cain had stuck it out longer as well as I think he might have been even more formidable in the general election than Newt would have been. Or better yet, a Cain/Gingrich or Gingrich/Cain ticket! But that's water under the bridge.
