Uzbekistan Pays Teachers With Chickens

Uzbek doctors and teachers got a shock this month when part of their salaries came in the form of...Serbian chickens.
More than 20,000 chicks have already been distributed to public sector workers in the Central Asian country's Vobkent district, in the Bukhara region, and an additional 40,000 will be handed out in the coming months.
Public sector workers get 10 chicks each under the initiative, launched after cabinet ministers in February urged regional governments to boost domestic production of poultry, eggs, meat, and vegetables

My Russian born wife tell me that in the ‘70s, the Soviet government paid workers in BRICKS! At least you can eat a chicken.
Much like Dear Leaders wish that each of his peasants enjoy “a chicken in his pot every Sunday.” Provided by the government of course.
I was deployed to Uzbekistan. If there’s an Uzbek Chris Christie over there, I didn’t see such. They are a thin people and I heard the young women complain that there was more food available under Soviet rule.
Well, on the upside, they don’t have to waste gazillion dollars on diet. There is a benefit to live in a country with food shortage. The whole country is a crash diet camp.
