Looks as though Martin may indeed have bought skittles/tea but it sure took him a long time to wander back - casing houses for burglury maybe? Getting hight? Something took him longer than normal, unless he stayed someplace out of the rain for a while.
It has been my personal observation that thugs/people looking for criminal opportunity dislike inclement weather.

He goes to 7-11 (2miles round trip) Buys candy and a drink for step brother, has $22 in pocket when he dies, BUT buys nothing for himself. Why?
