Gov. Chris Christie said the country is becoming a "paternalistic entitlement society" this morning in a speech at a conservative conference headed by former President George W. Bush.
Addressing Bush and other national Republicans, Christie said he hasn't seen a less optimistic period in the country in his lifetime.
"Government's telling them stop dreaming, stop striving, we'll take care of you," he said at a theater at the New York Historical Society. "We're turning into a paternalistic entitlement society. That will not just bankrupt us financially, it will bankrupt us morally."
"We'll have a bunch of people sitting on a couch waiting for their next government check," Christie said.

Chris Christie describes himself perfectly.
People can’t get jobs.
When you ENCOURAGE labor unions to run the country, over-regulate industry to the point of strangulation, and over tax the hard-working backbone of the nation to redistribute their earnings to the do-nothings, you force industry to take the jobs elsewhere and you then have no jobs. I encourage Mr. Christie to get off his fat ‘couch’ and come up with a plan that will be an offer American industry cannot refuse. When we get the smoke stacks belching filth into the air again and the hammers banging and the wheels turning with American production this will begin to change. IF, and this is an important if, IF we will tell unions to take a seat and STFU!
I can’t quite figure out why folks are blasting Christie for speaking the needed truth.
Red meat for ‘REAL’ conservatives, He’s running for VP, ya know.
“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.” - Alexis de Tocqueville
I know a lot of people don’t care for Christie (he is certainly more liberal than most of us here), but you really have to admire his guts for speaking the plain truth like this, saying things that Mitt Romney, for example, would never say in a million years.
You and me both.
I agree. I appreciate his bluntness!
The advantage to SS disability is that once one is on the program, in order to be removed, the agency has to be able to show improvement in the conditions which impelled the listing. This is a permanent entitlement paycheck.
Because he is a loud mouth liberal slob? Just a guess.
Thats what happens when a Nation sends its manufacturing base overseas and imports about 50 million of the worlds most undesireable human beings.
Because of the United States’ Constitution, individuals are more able to develop a skill or talent and escape the “lot of man”, Poverty.

Patrick Colquhoun, 1806
Poverty ... is a most necessary and indispensable ingredient in society, without which nations and communities could not exist in a state of civilisation. It is the lot of man it is the source of wealth, since without poverty there would be no labour, and without labour there could be no riches, no refinement, no comfort, and no benefit to those who may be possessed of wealth.
Please let this go viral.... Obama on double speak if re-elected.

Alexis de Tocqueville never said any such thing.
It also happens to be untrue, or at least unproven.
Unless you’d care to list the world’s “great civilizations” and their length of existence and show why the 200 year period is accurate.
The quote is a pastiche of two different quotes that have been floating around on the interwebs for a long time. Neither by Tocqueville.

The reason is that he’s less than perfect. We conservatives are apparently Hell bent to see our country continue its dive into third world depravity rather than speak kindly of someone who we perceive as less than perfect.
You mean if we can force people to work for Chinese wages??? IF we can start dumping raw sewage and chemicals into the creeks, streams and lakes???
Perhaps you could set the example for us...Give all your wages back to your employer above minimum wage, which is much too high anyway, some say...
And when you break a leg (after you your health benefits are lost) don't forget to ignore the hospital...Just lay down and die...
And with all the people back to work, more jobs will be created...There'll be a Dollar Store 2 to a block selling more of that Chinese junk to you and me...
Please don’t call Gov. Christie a “loud mouth liberal slob”. Yes he is 80% RINO, but now and then some real truths and accurate observations on the sad state of our society come out of his mouth.
As far as the slob part, being a fatty is an unfortunate addiction or an emotional problem that is hard to control and lick. I’ve been there and know the pain of a weight problem. One’s self image and feelings about being fat are hard to handle and make one ashamed. At least fat just harms the one carrying it and rarely harms others, unlike drug and alcohol addiction. We get our fix legally and usually pay for it as well. Not too many fatties leave their kids unsupervised to get a burger or kill others while driving and eating. Most of us also have health insurance and don’t transfer the cost of medical treatment to society or run to the emergency room due to a too spicy taco
