A day before Easter, the head of New York's Roman Catholic archdiocese faced a challenge to his stance on gay rights: the resignation of a church charity board member who says he's "had enough" of the cardinal's attitude.
Joseph Amodeo told The Associated Press on Saturday that he quit the junior board of the city's Catholic Charities after Cardinal Timothy Dolan failed to respond to a "call for help" for homeless youths who are not heterosexual.
"As someone who believes in the message of love enshrined in the teachings of Christ, I find it disheartening that a man of God would refuse to extend a pastoral arm" to such youths, Amodeo said in his letter to the charitable organization last Tuesday.
Phone and email requests from the AP for comment from the archdiocese were not immediately answered on Saturday.

Can’t be a very good Catholic.
let’s just say my gut told me a long time ago that the Office of Catholic Charities at the Archdiocese is overdue for a housecleaning.
One has to read the full article in order to see that this whole thing appears to have been conjured up as an attack on Cardinal Dolan. Dolan’s response to the original letter of complaint was right on the mark as the author was attempting to set the Cardinal up.
Good for Dolan. Good for Chaput and the other Bishops and Archbishops who finally are speaking out.
Hire faithful catholics. Problem solved.
I suppose the guy wants Catholic Charities to force homeless youths to disclose their sexual orientation so that the GLBTQ ones could be steered to special shelters staffed with counsellors like him. What could possibly go wrong?
Why don’t they just stay in the closet...we don’t need to know what they do in the bedroom. They create their own problems by advertising their actions which are an ABOMINDATION!

WHOO HOOOOOO!
At least one fine cardinal is awake and punching back at the money changers and scoffers perched on the steps of the temple.
Long live Cardinal Dolan! Long live Pope Benedict!
And what part of the story is he leaving out?
The Church in NY was the first one to tackle the AIDS crisis, back when it was still "the gay disease". And the Church doesn't turn its back on individuals because they are gay -- it's the act of homosexuality that it frowns upon.
And I find it hard to believe that anyone who represented himself as a man of God would be so tolerant of a lifestyle that will cost those youths their eternal souls. Any minister worth his cassock would do everything in his power to draw these children back into God's fold rather than making it easy for them to continue in sin.

How much can you love someone if you make their journey to Hell an easy one?
Joe, don’t let the door hit you on the way out!
Christ never favored anybody doing something wrong and calling it right. That is what this man is doing. Let him go.
