I am opposed to excessive and overreaching legislation however, if I were a politician I would introduce legislation that would require that in any case where the media uses audio or video in a broadcast, they must divulge when they edit the audio or video and they must describe what has been edited out. If found to have edited without disclosure or without incorrect or inadequate disclosure, the editor, the newscaster, the network and the affiliate would all be subject to steep fines and sentences.
