No one is asking you to give what you cannot afford.
I contribute a small amount every month via credit card. It could not be simpler.
If everyone did that that posts and lurks here, Jim would not have to worry about Freep a thons at all. There would be a stable base of steady income, without billing.
There are 100,000 people a month that use Freerepublic. If
everyone gave $ 5.00/month, the yearly cost would be paid in one month.
Truth is, not a large percentage of those here pay for the privilege. Everyone needs to do something.
BTW, if you are going to go out after 13 years, you could have put a little more thought into your opus instead of embarrassing the rest of us Class of ‘98-ers.
As another member of the Class of 1998 (lurked in 1997), I agree with everything you said. It’s a voluntary contribution, and given Jim’s medical issues coupled with the costs to run this site, I don’t begrudge him a dime. God bless him and this site. Not happy with it, don’t contribute. But why stop coming to the site for the articles?
