Lachlan, this government would simply treat whatever you say as a set of instructions.
I don’t want to leave the wrong impression here. I did not spend a great deal of time there as it was when I was going to school. I’m not a native of the soviet union or anything like that. But I was there long enough to see things, and to be educated by the then Soviets.
I would love to tell stories that happened, and to reveal the paranoia that we observed, as well as the unfolding of events that made the paranoia justified.
What gives me hope is that even under the repressive Soviet regime, the people were resilient and coped in the most amazing ways. What most impressed me was the black market in the economy, which functioned very much like a free market elsewhere, but which was to be hidden.
People need to go back and start reading why we undertook a revolution. There was an honest understanding by everyone what freedom was.
We are so jaded, that we would not recognize the cages we cannot leave.
