In 1999, then-State Senator Barack Obama invoked the late radical Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, who passed away in 1996, to promote a universal health care law he co-sponsored and which Illinois voters had overwhelmingly rejected.
The bill incorporated language directly from the late cardinal’s 1995 pastoral letter, “A Sign of Hope,” which argued for a “fundamental right” to healthcare, reading, in part: “Health care is an essential safeguard of human life and dignity, and there is an obligation for society to ensure that every person be able to realize that right.”
Supporters of single payer health care, like Dr. Quentin Young of Physicians for a National Health Program, understood Bernardin to be calling for a government takeover of health care. "Cardinal Bernardin wrote on the moral questions we're talking about," Dr. Young told the Palm Beach Post on January 4, 1998. “His concept was that human dignity requires an ethic that assures health care to all people in a society.”
Supporters of the so-called “Bernadin Amendment” quickly roped in Dr. Warren Furey, the cardinal’s personal physician and chairman of the Department of Medicine at Mercy Hospital.
The law, had it passed, would have forced the state to enact a plan that, in the Orwellian words of the Chicago Tribune, “permits everyone in Illinois to obtain decent health care on a regular basis by 2002.”

Dr. Quentin Young is an old former Communist Party member/leader, Chicago professionals club, who later joined the emerging marxist Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).
He is Obama’s top advisor on universal healthcare (a photo of them can be found at www.keywiki.og, search “Quentin Young” page.
Young, and other former CPUSA members and sympathizers were at Bill Ayers house the night that they got Obama to run for the Illinois State Senate seat of leftist Alice Palmer, who was also there.
Google the various groups that support universal healthcare and inevitably you will find Quentin Young in there somewhere. Once a red, aways a red, but this time with a friend (from the hood), in the White House.
That is the danger to America.

Bernardin was a confused Catholic leader. Render unto “Ceasar” he did not understand. Get in bed with the progressive Government you get abused. Then you find out they are actually Godless!

You’re right, but it wasn’t the first time; both Gore & Kerry won the states with large numbers of Catholics, while Protestant America thankfully was able to offset that.
The Catholic hierarchy should have been replaced wholesale after those elections; if they had been we wouldn’t be dealing with Obama.

I have relatives who are Catholic except when it comes to "social issues". They put on their blinders and voted for The Won, Mr. Hope'n'Change hisownseff. They'll probably vote for him again this year.
I have not given up on them; even Saul saw the light eventually and that turned out quite well. (Now that is a real story of hope and change!)
