I’m very conservative and I teach math and science, the old school way. There are a few of us around but not many, I don’t know how much longer I can keep teaching. I am reminded daily of how ashamed of my profession I have become.
Things were bad in the seventies, when I was in HS, and from the stories my kids bring home today they’ve only gotten worse. You deserve props for lasting this long.
usually when I see this attitude with teachers my response is....the better your local “capitalism” is thriving...the more secure your job is.
However...this is Fairfax County.
If memory serves me correctly, the “ruling elite” of DC flock to areas such as this and get their kids into these very well funded Fairfax County schools.
So - this particular school may thrive more on political influence rather than the typical funding issues you see elsewhere.
“...the old school way...”
Thank you. It is a very tough job. It is even more difficult when colleagues are uninformed, irrational and emotionally unstable.
I have tremendous respect and admiration for many of my math and science teachers.
Times have changed. I know university professors that should not be allowed to clean out a garage.
Government from the faculty lounge is a disaster.
