The way I’m going with this one is that the boyfriend is a major league wimp. He calls his girlfriend ugly, she pushes and slaps him, and he calls the police. Maybe he should be wearing the dress in this relationship.

Maybe that's why he withheld sex, because she wouldn't lend him one of her dresses.

that's all you can do anymore. if the guy gets in any way aggressive, or even seems threatening, he's in deep crap.

Maybe he should be wearing the dress in this relationship. It's called controlling the narrative, and he did the smart thing. Being on record as the one who initiated the call about HER hitting HIM, it becomes harder for her to file false assault charges against him. She was trying to provoke him into retaliating so that she could get him arrested and thrown in jail.
If he's smart, he'll dump her immediately.

Maybe he should be wearing the dress in this relationship. I hate to say it, but I think he did the right thing. ANYTHING else he did would likely land him in jail.
After seeing the way so many females lob false charges against men for almost nothing, they know they can ruin someone's life for good with a few false charges.
Give him credit at least for waking up to what she was really like and refusing to cooperate with her on any level.
