SACRAMENTO — Embattled electronic voting machine maker Diebold Election Systems weathered new accusations Wednesday of computer glitches, last-minute software fixes and careless job performances that, in the words of the California secretary of state’s office, “jeopardized the outcome of the March election.”
A state voting systems panel is considering disciplinary action against the firm, which could bruise its standing nationally as states gear up to spend billions of dollars for new touch screen voting equipment.

Diebold President Robert J. Urosevich apologized Wednesday to Secretary of State Kevin Shelley, the eight-member voter systems panel that oversees California voting machinery and to 17 counties that use its varying electronic voting systems.

HOW TWO VOTING MACHINE COMPANIES CAME TO COUNT 80% OF AMERICA’S VOTES

The electronic voting machine industry is dominated by only a few corporations - Election Systems & Software (ES&S), Diebold, Sequoia and Hart Intercivic, but ES&S and Diebold dominate the field: Together they count an estimated 80% of U.S. electronic votes. Looking back at the history of mergers and acquisitions which produced these two giants, one must question if there really is a difference between them. Bob Urosevich is currently president of Diebold and Todd Urosevich is vice president of ES&S. The two brothers started out together in the early days of the electronic voting industry (1980s) and now together they control the market.

Long read but Alek nailed it:

Money quote:

“...However the most worrying aspect of this unresolved saga for US electors and authorities is not Blaine’s conflict of interests and altogether untrustworthy character, nor the murky nature of Sequoia and Smartmatic deals. Rather, as content of ruling linked above shows [pages 13-14], it is the fact that Smartmatic software, written and produced in Venezuela by Smartmatic employees, is still in use:...”
