I’d warn him after I shot him, that way if someone asks “did you warn him?” I can honestly say yes...

I would have “said” the same thing to the police......
Well, I figure that if they make it past the closed and/or locked doors, the 200 Lbs Great Dane, and the yippy little 5 lbs dog that raises a ruckus around strangers that they've had ample warning. If at that point they are still following their current course of action, then their intentions are pretty obvious. My wife and kids understand that "weapons hot" is the proper status to be in and there is no more need for discussion
