George Zimmerman's Sanford, Fla., neighbor, said the neighborhood watchman protected his residence from a potential burglary several weeks before the shooting of Trayvon Martin.
Frank Taaffe, a former neighborhood watch captain, told CNN that his house was in the process of being robbed on Feb. 2, but Zimmerman called Sanford police, who thwarted the robbery.
"My house was being robbed, and George on his nightly rounds watched this burglary in progress, called Sanford P.D., waited for them, and helped ensure that nothing bad happened to my house," Taaffe said. "And it's documented in the 911 call for February 2. That was my residence that George Zimmerman helped stop." Zimmerman shot and killed Martin on Feb. 26.
"Neighbor-hood, that's a great word," Taaffe said.
Taaffe said that "young black males" were the perpetrators in the attempted robbery of his home. "We had eight burglaries in our neighborhood all perpetrated by young black males in the 15 months prior to Trayvon being shot," Taaffe said. "It would have been nine."
Taaffe denied that he told the New York Times that burglaries were done by "Trayvon-like dudes with their pants down."
"I never said that," he said. "I never used that term."

It will be interesting to see if the number of burglaries decreases significantly during the next year.
By the way, why do I get the feeling the above story and statistic is something I will NEVER see reported on my TV by the Democrat "mainstream" networks?

I can’t believe that such a monstrous crime committed by an evil scum life form lower than any animal is getting so little outrage or even reaction. What the hell has to happen before whites have had enough, our altruism is going to be the death of us. Whoever remains should take no comfort in that if they had an iota of forward thinking, because the future without us is Detroit, Haiti, the Congo. And execrable rap “music”, a punishment all its own. All the glories of Western civilisation die with us.
Too bad that under US law this worthless evil scum can never get the punishment he deserves. As you say, I can’t even bear to ponder the horror a sweet old woman endured, and that of the husband who loved and cherished her. At least now she’s in the arms of our Lord. I hope the family can find comfort somehow. If it was my mother I’d want him to die in ways I won’t specify.

Zimmerman, Father White, Mother Hispanic. Instead of White Hispanic, he should be described as Caucasian Hispanic.
My Wife has the same lineage, though she didn't appreciate when I pointed out that the Media has now classified her as a White Hispanic.
She had never once heard the expression “White / Hispanic” before I mentioned it.
This thread reminds me of the news in my area, Washington State. Whatever legal term it is I don’t know, but home invasions are in the news a lot more as of late - and the owners are fighting back.

I don't know; they're very different technologies. Someone in LE or psych might have a better idea of their relative usefulness.

§ 30.02. BURGLARY. (a) A person commits an offense if, without the effective consent of the owner, the person:
(1) enters a habitation, or a building (or any portion of a building) not then open to the public, with intent to commit a felony, theft, or an assault; or
(2) remains concealed, with intent to commit a felony, theft, or an assault, in a building or habitation; or
(3) enters a building or habitation and commits or attempts to commit a felony, theft, or an assault
