CA: Stem cell institute to work with foreign agencies

California's $3 billion stem cell agency, now more than 7 years old, has joined research partnerships with science and health agencies in eight foreign countries, the San Francisco institute announced.

The agreements call for collaboration in efforts aimed at speeding stem cell research from the laboratory to the hospital, where researchers hope that basic human cells will be programmed to treat scores of human degenerative diseases.

Research partnerships between American and foreign stem cell scientists are encouraged, but the California institute's funds would only be spent within the state, institute officials said.

Alan Trounson, president of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, signed agreements with stem cell funding agencies in Brazil and Argentina last week, he said Thursday.

"Both Brazil and Argentina have strong and robust stem cell research communities in basic science and transitional clinical science, which should create exciting synergies with many scientists in California," Trounson said in a statement.

He has signed similar pacts with stem cell agencies in Canada, Britain, France, Spain, Australia, Japan, China and Indiana.

Any of the $3 billion left? It’s all gone maybe? Used to pay well-connected politicians and supporters, finance Democratic Party and union campaigns no doubt.

As long as California can afford it and it's okay with the tax payers...

So, Californians provide the seed money on the promise that it will produce domestic jobs, the next "biotech boom." The people approve the bonds and go into debt with the promise that if they fund the developments to come they will derive the benefit. (Never mind that this was all illusory in the first place.) Then, once these con-artist "scientists" have blown the seed money on high salaries and fancy digs, they sell out that capital investment to foreigners? At a discount?

These creeps belong in jail.

Your assertion seems incorrect.

These creeps belong in a (foreign) jail.
Is Lubyunka available for rent?
Maybe Poland..

Only collaborations and no actual dough will be exchanged in their efforts. How comforting.

What was reported and what will likely occur aren’t always the same thing in California. I hear ya tho, it’s just a hunch or speculation based on a track record of the electorate and who they vote for and the pharmaceutical firms they own a piece of.. the sheep get sheared in the end ..

likely it’s easier to export Cali tax dollars offshore to support types of stem cell research (embryonic for instance) that aren’t tolerated well here in the US of A, than take the publicity hit for doing it right here in Cali under our noses.

Indiana declared independence? and won? they’re a nation now? cool! no, wait.., I thought they were supposed to be the 57th state!
