Republicans need to unite to win
Sun-Sentinel ^ | April 1, 2012 | Noelle Nikpour

"I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat," the American humorist Will Rogers once said. He also said, "Democrats never agree on anything. That's why they're Democrats. If they agreed with each other, they would be Republicans."

Will Rogers must be turning in his grave because this is the year that Democrats are organized and do agree on something — the need to defeat the Republicans.

That means if Republicans want to win this election, it's time to unite behind the only candidate that can still win the party's nomination, Mitt Romney, and then explain to voters how the core Republican philosophy of less government and lower taxes will rally the economy.

[SNIP]

Once the general election begins, Republicans must be sure to fight the battle on their terms. They'll have a businessman who created jobs versus a big-spending Democrat who has presided over four years of unemployment. They'll have a man who has succeeded at everything versus a failed president.

And they'll still have the issues that matter most to Americans on their side. According to a December Gallup poll, 64 percent of Americans said the biggest threat to the economy is big government, which can't be good news to Democrats, who love big government. Another 8 percent cited big labor, a Democratic Party ally. Only 26 percent said the same about big business, which traditionally is associated with Republicans.

A strong nominee, a united party, and a coherent message about the dangers of big government versus Obama and his big-government record. If that's what Republicans run with, they'll win.

What hogwash.

If you are a Christian, you know its not hogwash.

My greatest political principle is to vote for the most conservative candidate that I can....whether he or she is conservative enough to suit me or not.

I'm beginning to believe that you don't really understand American politics.

It is ALL about entitlements and the only thing Bush did in terms of entitlements is MAKE THEM WORSE with his drug entitlement.

Good comment. Absolutely we have to unite. I imagine Obama supporters would like nothing more than to talk us out of voting for his opponent.

Romney’s plenty capable.

Whatever you may think of him, he’s thoroughly trounced every competitor.

If he runs as determined against Obama, it will be a landslide defeat against Obama, and America’s rapid destruction will halt.

We won’t turn things around, but we’ll stop the damage. Next go around, if we can stop the circular firing squad which the GOP had become, then let’s run a real conservative against the incumbent Romney, who by then will be in just about the same condition George W Bush was this time last election.

I haven’t supported any of the Republican candidates. Every single one of them has disqualified themselves by their support for immoral, unconstitutional policies and/or utterly unprincipled politicians.

The Republican Party is almost entirely bereft of any true leadership.

You're part of the problem, and either don't know it or don't care.

In my opinion America is pretty much screwed because of that lack of ethics from "conservatives". I saw they way that called Michele Bachmann "Stupid" "liar" and "desperate" when she promised to bring gas prices down only to turn around and praise Gingrich for making the same promise. I saw FReepers running with the rumors about her husband being gay. I saw them using the far left wing site Santorumexposed.com to attack Rick Santorum. Those who screamed the loudest about Santorum's endorsement of Arlen Specter are now explaining political expediency as a means of justifying their backing of Romney.

We can blame democrats for destroying the country all we want but it doesn't mean squat if we become them in the process. The simple fact is that no one has harmed conservatives more than those who sold their souls for a win at any cost.

I guess you missed his run against Kennedy, the one in which he ran to Teddy's left.

That always comes up...but Bush did the best he could.

An overwhelming majority of Americans supported a drug entitlement for the elderly. It made sense to spend hundreds of dollars on medicine, as opposed to thousands or hundreds of thousands on hospitilizations the would occur because of lack of medicines. Bush used a private insurance companies to put that program into effect, and it has come in over 40% below estimated costs.

Kerry would have given us a single payer, bureaucratic nightmare that would have strangled pharmaceutical and insurance companies.

He did the best he could with the cards he was dealt...just as he always did.

Romney’s plenty capable.

Oh, he is. No governor in history has accomplished more for the radical Left.

Even James Carville expressed great admiration for his accomplishments.

Next go around,

Smart folks just don't believe "somewhere over the rainbow" Romney Republican promises any more.

Experience is a great teacher.

Whatever you may think of any Kennedy (not sure which one you're referring to or what race - not that I'm saying your example isn't important) there's really no more formidable name in American politics.

So sure I'll presume what you say is true and grant that's an example, it certainly doesn't negate Romney's obvious skill (frankly I'd call it ruthlessness) at campaigning.

Romney may be a son of a b*tch, but he's our son of a b*tch.

We can oppose him next go around. Either figure a way to defeat him in the next 2 months, or start now figuring out (RIGHT NOW) how to replace him in 2016.

Remember the media will turn on Romney the moment the GOP convention is over. I think Romney will still win, but by 2016 he'll be a mess.

Then, we get a real president.

Another translation from Romney Republican-speak, for the readers’ sake: “you don’t really understand American politics” = You refuse to support the most liberal governor in U.S. history.

I'm pretty sure I've heard this song and dance before...

Oh yeah, I have! Right before the last time Obama got elected because of the unprincipled uselessness of the Republican Party!

Well then perhaps you should go out and work to defeat Romney in the next two months, after which time the issue more or less become moot.

I don’t like it, but as things stand now, Romney seems headed for a big win.

Even against Obama.
(that part I like very much)

Yep. They're the first and most important obstacle to the restoration of the republic.

Which is really sad, considering that if they would be principled, without wavering, they would crush the opposition like bugs.

The difference with McCain is McCain didn’t win. He didn’t even drive his own victory.

Everyone else lost.

Romney on the other hand, has with Machiavellian precision eliminated every challenger. Every single one. He’s absolutely ruthless.

I’m starting to respect him grudgingly, for exactly what I don’t like about him.

The nomination isn’t over yet.

Once it is, I’ll support whoever is our nominee.

100%
