The band’s name comes from a phrase uttered in the early 80’s by former California Senator Alan Cranston (a man who makes Harry Reid look like a genius by comparison) warning about “nuclear megadeath” coming to America if we didn’t agree to ban all nuclear weapons and give the Soviets everything they wanted. They just changed the spelling to make it fit better on t-shirts. :)

Megadeath is a term that’s been around since early in the atomic age.

meg·a·death [meg-uh-deth]

I heard there is a Megadeth tribute band made up entirely of midgets called Microdeth.
