Well possibly, but then there are other possible reasons why asthma is on the increase - a general increase in atmospheric pollutants of all kinds over the same time period being an obvious one.
I agree that there could be many reasons, however the anti-tobacco zealouts use correlation as causation all the time, so my point is that what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
