GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Thursday took GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney to task for his past as a self-described independent who claimed he did not want to return to the days of Reagan-Bush.
Santorum, speaking to supporters at the Jelly Belly factory which had honored President Ronald Reagan in the past for promoting the jelly bean asked which candidate would be pull together the Reagan coalition and win swings states, which are vitally important for winning the presidential election.(Snip)
Governor Romney said that after the Etch-a-Sketch flap that he was going to run as a conservative in the fall. Im not going to run as a conservative in the fall. I am a conservative, period, Santorum said.

I want to say something wise and from my heart tomorrow about grace and light when I introduce Karen. thoughts stpio?
Low turnout + high Romney negatives = SANTORUM can actually SHOCK the MSM and party establishment to WIN in Wisconsin early next week by several points. It is all about courage, commitmrnt and direct action. Despite what a few FR noisemakers who pose for Newt but hate Rick and are actually for Little Mitt here. It can be done. I am relling you! There is a large enough undecided as well!! People can call Wisconsin voters for Rick from their homes....Romney is not inevitable despite that narrative 24/7 these days.
I Find Santorum plenty likable - and he has a backbone. He isn't perfect by any means but neither is Newt and Newt is finished (and needs to bow out). Santorum is FAR more conservative than Romney and we had all better start supporting him or we will get Romney. Anyone can beat obummer in the general election - if they stay on topic and turn every question around to the economy.
It might be a good idea for us to make some comments about Rick on CNSNews.com after the article.
“Santorum is FAR more conservative than Romney and we had all better start supporting him or we will get Romney.”
That’s the bottom line.

To me, God’s grace is tangible, people are seeing the effort to pray brings results.
God’s grace coming down is everyone’s “enlightenment” this last week concerning BHO (via the Supreme Court) and about Romney. Keep praying and offer a “little” sacrifice to God, skip a meal, or a coffee. If someone is unkind, offer the suffering of their meanness up for Santorum who is the godly, moral conservative candidate.
Conservatives, Christians, we can with God’s grace defeat the biased media and the “establishment’s choice.” Pray everybody and do not listen to “it’s over, it’s already decided.”
We have said for years.....if only we had a conservative in the White House.
Well....stop griping and vote for the man!
You didn't ask me but ..
.....she is a woman of grace, caring and conviction.
I can't imagine a more wonderful example of First Lady than Karen Santorum
If asked, Romney would say the same thing. Not to take away from Rick, but past records, vision, and the ability to communicate the vision are far more useful than statements trying to affirm that those who worry about his conservativism can relax. It would be useful to ask why he has to make that statement at this stage of the game.
Wise wise words.....
Dumb as a box of rocks, but by golly he sure loves Jesus.
I'm praying for that result. I honestly think our best bet is a convention where we can choosse, not the media and GOPe.
What do YOU think about Jesus, might I ask??
‘I still dont know why this man thought he should run for POTUS. Did he look in the mirror one morning and think, Hey! I may not be the smartest bulb in the box, but Im as smart as the average American. They elected Obama. Hey! They just might vote for me too.’
You’re out in left field here...somewhat literally. ;-)
Santorum is quite bright, watch a few of his speeches (with no teleprompter I might add) and you’ll see. He served for several years on the Armed Services Committee, so he’s the strongest current candidate on national defense. Finally, the candidate’s campaign platform is just as important as his qualifications, as long as he sticks to his stated positions - which is where 0bamney fails. Rick’s platform is absolutely a winner.
If it’s a choice between Rick Santorum and Willard Romney for our candidate, Rick is the slam dunk easy choice.
He's pointing out that 0bamney's claim to being conservative are hollow and false, compared with his much more consistent conservative message. Don't forget that he's still being outspent somewhere around five to one in most states, he needs to get his message out.
That reminds me, time for a donation...
“Proposed Santorum campaign slogan...”
Here I am on FR, seeing the same “conservative candidates are dumb” rhetoric the MSM loves to push.
I’d love to know both your and Rick’s IQ...my guess is that he’s well above your level of intelligence.
Ah, our least favorite PSYCHO spouts again.
It must hurt seeing your favored candidate crash and burn. At least, I hope so. ;-)
