A Wisconsin man, who along with his three friends is suspected of illegally slaughtering as many as 100 deer in what prosecutors call an unprecedented "thrill-kill" spree, faces up to six months in jail.
Nathan Blaha, 20, of Hillsboro, Wis., and his accomplices allegedly wandered the backroads of Richland County in a pickup truck, stunning deer with a light before shooting them and leaving their carcasses to rot in what he called a contest to get the most deer, according to court documents.

Not only should this type of activity be encouraged, (although not at night, you can't see behind your target) the Wisconsin ATCP or Environmental Education board ought to be paying bounties on deer.
Forming a picket line and heading through forest edge land and dropping them where they stand would be an outstanding environmental and human safety improvement.
Does Bambi scare you?
” leaving their carcasses to rot ....”
That’s just plain wrong.
Not only that, provided a lot of food for other animals that are as important as deer (seriously). I don’t see a point in killing something you don’t intend to eat (unless for health reasons, like vermin), but here in NJ people are endangered by these things all over our roadways. One of our former governors even had Lyme disease; there is no reason for these things to be living in proximity to people.
Sounds like alot of fun while not only improving your shooting skills but also reducing or eliminating expensive deer/autombile collisions and crop damage.
Carrion baggage.
I don’t care what this guy’s motive was. He committed probably the single greatest act of improving the health of the surrounding forests in the past century.
Shouldn’t have let the meat rot.
I lost most of my sympathy for deer when I hit one standing in the road and totaled my car. Now I see them as nuisance pests.
I clicked on this thread thinking I would be the only one to say ‘good for them”. The critters need a huge culling in many parts of the USA.
Goes into the food chain no matter what you do with it, unless you burn it
The meat didn’t “just rot”. The meat was entirely eaten, just not by humans
I prefer to feed myself first — flies second.

Neither do I. His sentence for poaching should be getting parachuted into Afghanistan with his hunting rifle and 10,000 rounds of ammunition.
You should read up on this before commenting.
Deer kill more Americans every year than any other animal (about 150).
Around 1900, there were about 500,000 deer in the U.S. Today, there's over 20 million, a 40x increase.
Have you been in a forest lately? That "cathedral" effect isn't natural. There's supposed to be both shrubs and saplings. They've all been eaten by deer. Notice the dead or dying older trees that have had all their bark rutted off? Deer again.
If you don't think that's a problem for the future of forests and the environment, you're just plain wrong.
WI is a wasting disease zone. wonder if so many deer in close proximity is a causal factor..?
I agree. If I hadn’t pulled the car back onto the road after hitting one of those rats on stilts,I don’t know what the heck would have happened.Damned thing charged us.
My niece and her boyfriends car was totaled out, plus the deer went flying and hit the car behind them ,destroyed the windshield and nearly killed the people behind them.About three cars were totaled out in that accident.
