A Wisconsin man, who along with his three friends is suspected of illegally slaughtering as many as 100 deer in what prosecutors call an unprecedented "thrill-kill" spree, faces up to six months in jail.

Nathan Blaha, 20, of Hillsboro, Wis., and his accomplices allegedly wandered the backroads of Richland County in a pickup truck, stunning deer with a light before shooting them and leaving their carcasses to rot in what he called a contest to “get the most deer,” according to court documents.

“...there are far too many of them for the good of the woodlands.”

That is true, but it isn’t a deer problem, it is a people problem, especially among liberals and those folks who spell whitail deer as “Bambi”! Others that balk like a recalcitrant mule at the very idea of culling does (Mama Bambis) refuse to understand that culling does can control population increases very quickly, bucks not so much at all, unless you kill every one in the entire area!

I disagree; there is a 3rd type: those of us who are disgusted about the wanton waste of good, healthy, natural venison!!!

“Nature eats every bit of the carcass. EVERY bit. Nothing is lost.”

NOT always, unless you have included microbes and blow fly larvae in your definition of “nature”.

“Do they stampede? I mean, could your stampede them over a cliff like bison?”

Porbably not, except by accident, as they don’t run in large, cohesive herds like bison.

“Who was he poaching from?”

I can’t believe you asked that! He was poaching from ALL of us citizens who own all the wildlife, especially those of us who buy hunting and fishing equipment, where due to the Robertson - Pitman Act, a portion of excise taxes paid go fish and wildlife management and improvement.

That is NOT the primary consideration. Arrows are quieter with a very much reduced range, being under a hundred yards vs up to a mile for even a .22 rifle!

That is the primary consideration when you’re on the receiving end of it; I hike a lot, and would prefer to deal with bow hunters versus rifle.

Compound bows are lethal at more than 100 yards.

Citizens collectively own wildlife? Interesting. What other things do citizens own collectively?

Let me explain more fully. This is my inlaws property. We run a hunt club and we usually get our numbers. We don’t want help for our property. Reasonably we don’t want people we don’t know on the property doing whatever. Some people are honest most are not. We have strict rules about what you can shoot when. I am sure you will be happy to abide by these no matter what! Say for instance you must take a doe before a buck and you must not shoot a buck unless it is a 10 or atypical. Still want to drive hours to come hunt under these conditions? Yeah right. I am sure the world is full of honest good old boys who have absolute self control in these matters. Expect I haven’t met any yet. I am saying that deer are everywhere and collectively as a society we don’t hunt therefore the problem. I have no idea who you folks are when you refer to them. What do you mean? We are dealing with our share of the problem. Others not so much.

I certainly don’t condone what those idiots did to the deer.
I have a nut for a friend who wants to have all the highways and roads fenced off so that the deer won’t get hurt.
Deer are ok as long as they stay away from me,on a hill ,off in the distance.

I would disagree, it IS a deer problem and I would also argue that liberals here in S.E. Michigan are in line with the fact that deer are a major problem. What do YOU propose to do about it? Hunters here already have access to a buck license, a doe license, a black powder license and a bow license for bucks and a bow license for does?

What you fail to take into consideration is the high population density, the wooded areas within subdivisions that can't be safely hunted, and the declining public land that many hunters take advantage of...............

In my subdivision alone, there is a .1 mile square wooded area that contains a small herd of at least 5 deer. On the East side is a fully developed condo complex, on the S. side is an 8 lane highway and on the W. side is another fully developed condo complex.........How do you propose the hunting of these deer????? Shoot them with a bow and hope they don't run towards the highway where traffic speed averages 60 MPH?

Sorry but the underlying problem with the accelerating deer populations is the declining areas where they can be shot safely..........

Fine. Let’s raise the price of hunting licenses to help cover the cost of damages these vermin do. Doe are over populated and hunters don’t want them. I’ll go back to my earlier statement. A hunter should have to bag two doe before they are allowed one buck. Before they can take a second buck, two more does

If there hadn't been a forest full of bambi around, this guy would have taken out a pasture of cows, horses, or other livestock.

I guess I missed where he said that in the article. Did you read a different one? ...Or, are you substituting baseless speculation for fact?

I don't care if they were feeding the deer with poison corn, more deer dead is a step in the right direction.

I live in "1-in-42" WEST Virginia.

And that's part of the reason we have the 3rd highest car insurance rates in the nation.

Spagetti logic! You have a problem and want to penalize outsiders with exorbitant fees to induce them to come help you solve YOUR problem?!? No wonder the deer like it there!
