Clothing can be a signal and it can be useful to criminals. A relative of mine managed a retail store, and she knew when someone entered the store all covered up with a large coat and wearing baggy pants (in the scorching heat of summer), that they were shoplifters. That is why banks have a sign stating that you have to remove all hats, hoods and sunglasses before you enter, they don't care how cold it is outside.

Exactly! And the idea that one cannot judge based on appearance or dress is ludicrous. We all do that every day, and people send a message about themselves by their clothes, hair, etc. As I told my liberal (ex)daughter-in-law, the guy dressed up as a gangbanger may be a nice kid, but I wouldn’t bet my lunch money on it.

Some banks may have that sign but I’ve yet to take off my cap on command, nor will I ever, including in a court room ( a judge apologized for his request).
