Insight: Obama's North Korean leap of faith turns to ashes

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - When U.S. diplomats filed into North Korea's grim embassy in Beijing last month they found an unlikely surprise: Starbucks.
Their hosts, led by North Korean's chief nuclear negotiator Kim Kye-gwan, had ordered U.S.-style coffee for talks both sides hoped would lead to new negotiations on Pyongyang's nuclear program and to resumed U.S. food shipments to one of the most feared and secretive countries in the world.
There were more surprises to come.
Five days later, the United States and North Korea simultaneously unveiled a unique and potentially far-reaching agreement, dubbed the "Leap Day" deal because it was announced on February 29 - that chronological oddity that occurs only every fourth year.
North Korea promised a moratorium on nuclear and long-range missile tests, and to open itself to new international inspections.

P!
bump
We should pull ALL our troops out and tell China “here ya go boys, all your problem now”.
I don’t think a starving country turns down 240,000 tons in food aid to launch a rocket.
Tha doesn’t make sense.
Kim3 needs to impress the Generals. He needs to be a “war hero” for internal propaganda purposes. Past history shows that South Korea’s response to provocation is always weak and ineffective.
South Korea’s “proportional” response usually makes the NK regime stronger and more emboldened. I am still wondering what the “proportional” response to the Cheonan, Korea Air flight 858, and the submarine infiltration thing was.
Kinda reminds me of the GOP Presidential nominating process.
The only difference is that they are dealing with Junior now.
At this point letting them starve seems the only way to get their attention. The only trouble besides the human concerns with that attitude is somebody else will take it as an opportunity to cozy up to them, so an embargo would have to be enforced at sea. The Chinese would still be able to bring aid across the border but they might be persuaded to keep it small. Collapse the regime, take away the food.
on target
More than likely he will take the 240k tons of food. Then launch the missle and threaten launching more if we dont ship more food.
I don’t understand how anyone, especially someone with the power of the POTUS, can sip “American” coffee and ignore the truth about North Korea. It’s a hell on earth.
That's what they've done the last half-dozen times. No reason to think they'd change now.
I think race thing Obama dont care about Asia it not his people RIGHT you got remember Obama come from generation that stick to their hoods Asians stick with their own African American stick it own etc etc
I hate to say it is true
